MSI ships GX640 gaming notebook to US

MSI has brought one of its faster gaming notebooks to a US audience. The GX640 pushes graphics over raw processor speed. Although it runs on a mid-range 2.26GHz Core i5, it counters this with a 1GB Mobility Radeon HD 5850 video chipset and a relatively dense 1680×1050, 15.4-inch display. It further accommodates a level of portability with a nine-cell battery and Bluetooth out of the box.

A sole $1,100 configuration is available but is mostly set as-is, with 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive spinning at 7,200RPM, 802.11n Wi-Fi and a two-megapixel webcam already taking care of most needs. Both eSATA and HDMI are on tap for fast external storage and HD video out.

The GX640 is already in stock at Amazon and should reach Newegg before the end of the month.
